  • ELLANN® Health I Chronisches Fatigue Syndrom (CFS)

CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME (CFS) Homepage / Diseases / Chronical Inflammation / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), also known as chronic fatigue syndrome, is a chronic disease with a diverse clinical picture. The main symptoms appear over a long period of time (more than 6 months) as persistent, severe exhaustion that cannot be eliminated by sleep and can be physical, mental and/or emotional. The care situation for patients with CFS in Germany has so far been very difficult because there are no specialized centers and many doctors have little knowledge of the disease and adequate therapeutic approaches. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) Causes of CFS causes The exact mechanism of how chronic fatigue syndrome develops has so far only been partially understood. The disease begins with an infection - usually in full health. Possible triggers can be: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and other herpes viruses Dengue viruses Coxsackie viruses Influenza Borrelia Bacteria (Legionella, Coxial) There are a number of proven connections that suggest that CFS is an autoimmune disease in at least some patients. Most people with chronic fatigue syndrome are highly productive until the disease occurs. As a rule, the disorder occurs suddenly and often after a stressful event. These risk factors include: Immune defects More cases in the family Vulnerable phase with physical or psychological stress Symptoms The problem with CFS is that the symptoms that occur initially appear unspecific and are therefore not associated. They could also indicate other illnesses. What is striking, however, is that the symptoms of CFS appear suddenly. The main symptom is onesevere fatigue for at least six months, resulting in severe restriction of everyday activities. Other symptoms can include: ⎯⎯• Persistent signs of infection such as a sore throat, painful lymph nodes or a slightly elevated temperature ⎯⎯• Susceptibility to infections ⎯⎯• Joint pain ⎯⎯• Muscle pain ⎯⎯• Headache ⎯⎯• Sleep disorders despite severe fatigue ⎯⎯• Increase in infections ⎯⎯• newly occurring allergies ⎯⎯• Food intolerances ⎯⎯• Disorders of the autonomic nervous system, which include dizziness, rapid heartbeat and intestinal problems The symptoms are chronic in most patients and often lead to occupational disability. Those who are particularly seriously ill are dependent on care. Treatment of CFS Because the exact cause of CFS is unknown, there is no specific treatment. Treatment therefore focuses on relieving symptoms and improving quality of life. This may include the use of pain relief medications, cognitive behavioral therapy, and rest. INUSpheresis® INUSpherese® as a treatment option for CFS INUSpheresis® can help alleviate the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) by removing inflammatory substances from the body to reduce underlying inflammation. By eliminating these substances, patients have the opportunity to recover from the symptoms of CFS and improve their quality of life. We have compiled further information about INUSpheresis® for you here. Treatment INUSpheresis Details In onestudy from 2022, striking similarities between long COVID and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) were reported, suggesting viral and autoimmune causes. In both diseases, antibodies against certain neurotransmitter receptors play a crucial role. A similar increase in these autoantibodies was found in both patient groups examined. Washing blood with a special filter appears to be effective in reducing these antibodies and significantly improves the distressing symptoms of CFS patients. Therefore, this form of blood purification could be a promising therapeutic option for patients with long COVID and CFS, even if previously unknown antibodies and inflammatory mediators are involved. • ELLANN® Health I Morbus Crohn

CROHN'S DISEASE Homepage / Diseases / Chronic inflammation / Morbus Crohn Morbus Crohn, like ulcerative colitis, is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. It is a complex barrier disease in which the protective function of the intestinal mucosa, which normally acts as a barrier against bacteria and foreign substances, is disrupted. This disorder, combined with the reduced ability of certain cells to recognize and fight bacteria, allows bacteria to invade the intestines, which in turn results in an immune reaction and the inflammation that is triggered. This long-term inflammation ultimately leads to tissue damage. In contrast to ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease can manifest itself in the entire digestive tract from the oral cavity to the anus, often affecting the lower section of the small intestine or large intestine. Another important feature of Crohn's disease is that, unlike ulcerative colitis, the inflammation affects all layers of the wall. As a result, the inflammation can spread more quickly into adjacent tissue structures and organs (such as the urinary bladder, ovaries and uterus) and cause abscesses or fistulas, which make therapy more difficult and further limit the quality of life of those affected. Morbus Crohn Causes of Morbus Crohn's disease Causes of Morbus Crohn's disease In the past, Morbus Crohn's disease was classified as a classic autoimmune disease, but we now know that it is actually an immune-associated disease. This means that the immune response that contributes to inflammation is not innate to the body, as is the case with autoimmune diseases. The exact causes of Crohn's disease are still not fully understood. However, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases always have complex backgrounds. Genetic predisposition In some cases of the disease there is a hereditary component. Mutations in certain genes that affect immune system function, intestinal barrier function, or inflammatory response may increase susceptibility to Crohn's disease. For example, changes in genes such as NOD2 and ATG16L1 have been linked to an increased risk of Crohn's disease. About half of patients with Crohn's disease have changes in the NOD2 gene. The level of risk depends on how severe the changes are and whether both genes are affected. immune system It is assumed that there is a disorder in the interaction between the intestinal immune system and the bacterial intestinal flora. Common intestinal bacteria invade the lining of the intestine, triggering an excessive immune response. Immune cells penetrate the tissue and continuously release inflammatory messenger substances. The immune system can also attack healthy tissue. In addition to the typical signs of inflammation, cell death and changes in tissue lead to progressive damage to the intestines. Numerous inflammatory messenger substances prevent the immune response from calming down, as happens in healthy people. The immune system remains in a persistently active state. Environmental factors Environmental factors can play a role in the development and progression of Crohn's disease. Although the exact causes of Crohn's disease are not yet fully understood, studies have shown that several factors may contribute to this condition: ⎯⎯• Smoke Smoking is a known risk factor for Crohn's disease. Studies have shown that smokers are almost twice as likely to develop Crohn's disease and that smoking can worsen the disease. ⎯⎯•Altered intestinal flora A disturbed intestinal flora, i.e. the microbial balance in the intestine, can play a role in the development of Crohn's disease. Studies show that certain bacterial strains are more common in people with Crohn's disease and that the intestinal flora can become unbalanced ⎯⎯•Nutrition Although no specific diet has been identified as a cause of Crohn's disease, there is evidence that a Western diet high in saturated fat, sugar, and processed foods may increase the risk of Crohn's disease. A low-fiber diet could also play a role. ⎯⎯•Environmental toxins It is thought that certain environmental toxins such as pesticides, chemicals and heavy metals may play a role in the development of Crohn's disease. Studies have shown that people living in developed countries are more likely to be affected by the disease. ⎯⎯•Psychological stress Although psychological stress is not the direct cause of Crohn's disease, stress and emotional stress can worsen the course of the disease and trigger flare-ups. It is important to note that these environmental factors do not affect all people with Crohn's disease equally. The exact connections and individual triggers can vary from person to person. Symptoms of Morbus Crohn Morbus Crohn often begins gradually. The disease progresses in episodes and symptoms can flare up and subside again and again. The most common symptoms are: ⎯⎯• Crampy abdominal pain ⎯⎯• Chronic diarrhea (sometimes with ⎯⎯• Blood in the stool when the colon is severely affected ⎯⎯• Fever ⎯⎯• nausea ⎯⎯• Vomit ⎯⎯• Loss of appetite ⎯⎯• weight loss If Crohn's disease has been present for a long time, not only the intestine is often affected, but also other organs. Possible symptoms are then: ⎯⎯• skin rash ⎯⎯• Joint pain and swelling ⎯⎯• Red eyes ⎯⎯• Liver and gallbladder problems ⎯⎯• Sore spots on the anus, sometimes also anal fissures Treatment of Morbus Crohn The Treatment for Morbus Crohn usually involves a combination of medications and lifestyle changes. Medications used to treat Crohn's disease include anti-inflammatory medications such as corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and biologics. Additionally, making changes to dietary habits, avoiding certain foods, and taking supplements can help improve symptoms. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to prevent complications such as intestinal obstruction, fistulas or abscesses. However, when deciding to have surgery, people usually try to preserve the intestines as much as possible and only remove the affected areas. It is important to note that Crohn's disease is a chronic disease and there is no cure. Treatment aims to control symptoms, achieve remissions and slow disease progression to improve patients' quality of life. INUSpheresis® INUSpheresis® for Morbus Crohn INUSpheresis® is a special blood plasma purification therapy that can be used for various diseases, including Crohn's disease. This therapy can help to specifically remove inflammatory substances, immune complexes, autoantibodies and harmful substances from the blood. By using innovative filters, the healthy components of the blood are preserved. The aim of therapy is to effectively alleviate chronic inflammation and the associated symptoms by washing out the corresponding inflammatory mediators and immune complexes. After INUSpherese® treatment, a significant reduction in inflammatory messengers such as CRP or TNF-a can be detected in the blood. ELLANN® is one of the few certified centers in Germany that offer INUSpherese® therapy. It is important to us to provide our patients with the best possible support in freeing their bodies from stress that causes illness and thus promoting their health. • ELLANN® Health I Stoffwechselerkrankungen

METABOLIC DISEASES Homepage / Diseases/ Metabolic Diseases Metabolic processes form the basis of all vital body functions. These processes are complex and affect every aspect of our organism. Vital metabolic processes are constantly taking place inside every cell of the human body. If these processes become unbalanced, we speak of a metabolic disorder, which, if left untreated, can lead to a metabolic disease. The causes are varied and can be genetic or environmental. Metabolic Diseases Causes of metabolic diseases Metabolic diseases can have various causes. Here are some of the most common causes of metabolic diseases: Causes of metabolic diseases 01 Environmental factors Metabolic diseases can be influenced by various environmental factors. 02 Nutrition An unhealthy diet high in sugar, saturated fat and processed foods can increase the risk of metabolic diseases such as diabetes. 03 Environmental toxins Exposure to environmental toxins such as heavy metals, pesticides and air pollution can impair metabolism and increase the risk of metabolic diseases. 04 lifestyle An inactive lifestyle, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can negatively affect metabolism and lead to health problems. 05 stress Chronic stress can affect hormonal balance and disrupt metabolism, which can increase the risk of metabolic diseases. 06 Genetic factors Congenital metabolic diseases are often due to genetic mutations. Some genetic defects are hereditary, while others occur spontaneously. Family predisposition plays an important role in the development of metabolic diseases. Examples of metabolic diseases causes FH is primarily caused by genetic changes in the genes for the LDL receptor (in about 80% of cases), apolipoprotein B-100 or the PCSK9 protein. These mutations impair the function of the LDL receptor and lead to impaired processing of LDL cholesterol in the body. Most affected people are heterozygous, meaning they have inherited an abnormal gene variant from one parent. They have a 20-fold increased risk of early cardiovascular disease and often develop symptoms of coronary heart disease before the age of 50. The homozygous form (inherited from both parents) is very rare and results in patients often dying of a heart attack before the age of 30 without appropriate treatment. The severity of the genetic mutation may influence cardiovascular risk differently in adulthood. Therefore, it is important to know patients' specific genetic defects to better guide their treatment. Treatment The main goal of treatment is to significantly reduce LDL cholesterol levels. Target values may vary depending on the stage of the disease. Typically, statins are preferred to lower cholesterol levels and a healthy lifestyle is recommended. In addition, new drugs such as PCSK9 inhibitors offer additional treatment options for people with FH. In more severe cases, lipoprotein apheresis may be required, which we will discuss in more detail below. Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is one of the most common inherited metabolic diseases that leads to elevated cholesterol levels in the blood. This in turn permanently increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes. In Germany, an estimated 160,000 to 400,000 people are affected by the hereditary disease, which means that between 1:200 and 1:500 people have familial hypercholesterolemia. Unfortunately, FH is often not recognized in a timely manner and is not adequately treated. Probably only around 15% of cases in Germany have been diagnosed. Most people only find out about their FH if they already have heart problems or if there is a high incidence of heart attacks in their family. The disease is inherited, and people with FH usually have high cholesterol levels from birth that are difficult to control. There are different genotypes of FH that can influence the severity of the disease. It is important to diagnose and treat familial hypercholesterolemia early to minimize the risk of cardiovascular disease. Family members of those affected should also be tested for FH as the condition is inherited genetically and early diagnosis and treatment can be life-saving. Familial hypercholesterolemia INUSpheresis® INUSpherese® for familial hypercholersterolemia Lipoprotein apheresis is considered when there is a particularly severe lipid metabolism disorder that cannot be adequately treated even with lifestyle changes and the use of lipid-lowering medications. This is particularly the case if the patient already suffers from vascular disease or there is a risk that an existing vascular disease will progress or spread to other areas of the body. In rare cases where patients cannot tolerate lipid-lowering medications, lipoprotein apheresis may be a helpful option. The procedure itself has been known and used in conventional medicine for many years. In 2009, INUS Medical Center AG in Cham (Bavaria) developed INUSpheresis®, a special form of blood washing. In contrast to conventional filters used in lipoprotein apheresis, INUSpherese® uses filters with a finer pore size. This allows the removal of up to 80% of lipids from the blood plasma. Read more about how the INUSpherese® treatment works and how it works here. This method of treatment helps improve microcirculation while reducing inflammatory markers and fibrinogen levels. That's why we at ELLANN® use INUSpheresis® as an accompanying therapy for FH. In addition, we develop an individual concept for each patient for the long-term reduction of blood lipid levels and cardiovascular risk. Treatment INUSpheresis Details According to a report published in 2022study , lipoprotein apheresis (LA) has been described as the most effective treatment option currently available to achieve maximal lipid reduction in patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and lipoprotein(a) hyperlipidemia. Although lipoprotein apheresis (LA) is considered an invasive method, the side effects encountered are low and it shows the best results in preventing major cardiovascular events. It is believed that the significant reduction in cardiovascular complications in patients with significant lipid disorders achieved by LA is due not only to the dramatic reduction in lipid levels, but also to the removal of other pro-inflammatory and atherogenic factors. Atherogenic factors are risk factors that can promote the development of arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. You can find more interesting studies here. • ELLANN® Health I Hashimoto-Thyreoiditis

HASHIMOTO THYREOIDITIS Homepage / Diseases / Autoimmune Diseases / Hashimoto's Thyroiditis In Germany, around one in three people suffers from thyroid problems, with a lack of thyroid hormones (underactive function) being common. About three percent of the population develops a chronic inflammatory condition called Hashimoto's thyroiditis (also known as Hashimoto's for short). This autoimmune disease causes the body's immune system to mistakenly attack the cells of the thyroid gland. This disease usually occurs between the ages of 30 and 50, with women being affected more often. The signs are often initially misinterpreted as menopausal symptoms. There are two forms of Hashimoto's thyroiditis: Atrophic form The thyroid tissue is gradually destroyed and the thyroid shrinks. This form is the most common. Hypertrophic form In the rarer form, the thyroid gland enlarges and a palpable goiter (goiter) forms. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Causes of Hashimoto Thyroiditis Causes of Hashimoto Thyroiditis The exact triggers for Hashimoto's are still being fully researched. It is discussed that family predisposition, hormonal changes (such as birth or menopause), psychological stress, severe viral infections (such as Pfeiffer's glandular fever, shingles) and hormonal problems of the adrenal cortex can be possible triggers. Environmental influences Environmental influences are also discussed, such as exposure to heavy metals, pesticides and numerous other everyday toxins. But smoking, stress, infections (especially hepatitis type C), an excess of iodine and a deficiency of selenium or vitamin D are also discussed as triggers for inflammation of the thyroid. Symptoms of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Hashimoto's does not usually cause pain and therefore often goes unnoticed. Initially, temporarily high levels of thyroid hormones may occur, causing signs of hyperthyroidism such as weight loss, nervousness, and heart palpitations. As the inflammation progresses and further damages the thyroid tissue, it leads to an underactive thyroid. The slowing of metabolic processes can lead to the following symptoms: ⎯⎯• Exhaustion and tiredness ⎯⎯• Dejection and depressive mood ⎯⎯• Memory problems and difficulty concentrating ⎯⎯• Freezing and sensitivity to cold ⎯⎯• Constipation and bloated stomach ⎯⎯• Weight gain despite a normal diet ⎯⎯• Dry skin, brittle hair and hair loss ⎯⎯• Susceptibility to infections ⎯⎯• Compulsion to clear the throat and cough, voice changes ⎯⎯• Menstrual cycle disorder in women ⎯⎯• Potency disorders in men ⎯⎯• Cardiac arrhythmia, slow heartbeat ⎯⎯• Water retention ⎯⎯• Hearing loss ⎯⎯• Muscle pain Depending on the course and severity, different symptoms can occur in each patient and not all symptoms always occur. Treatment options for Hashimoto's thyroiditis Hashimoto's thyroiditis is not curable. It is treated with hormone tablets that compensate for the lack of thyroid hormones. Treatment is usually aimed at relieving symptoms, balancing hormone levels by administering hormones and slowing the progression of the disease. However, this does not cure the autoimmune disease. Other influencing factors such as diet, stress, environmental influences and even the quality of sleep have a significant influence on the long-term success of the therapy, the improvement of symptoms and the effective prevention of new attacks in Hashimoto. Because the immune system is overactive in Hashimoto's, it is crucial to minimize potential triggers for this overreaction as much as possible. INUSpheresis® INUSpheresis® as an accompanying therapy for Hashimoto In the case of Hashimoto's, the first priority is to get the antibodies' attacks on the thyroid under control and thus bring the inflammation levels to the lowest possible range. Therefore, at ELLANN® we use INUSpheresis® as a useful complementary therapy option to specifically remove heavy metals and other environmental toxins as well as inflammatory proteins. Autoimmune diseases INUSpheresis Details There have already been various studies on the effectiveness of theINUSpheresis ® carried out. These show promising results in the treatment of various diseases such asUlcerative colitis ,rheumatoid arthritis ,Polyneuropathy ,Crohn's disease . This cost information is intended to serve as a rough guide, as the exact investment can vary depending on your individual health condition and any additional therapy options. As part of the therapy planning, you will receive detailed advice and a detailed cost overview that is individually tailored to your health goals. Frequently asked Questions

  • ELLANN® Health I Autoimmunerkrankungen

AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES Homepage / Diseases / Autoimmune Diseases Autoimmune diseases result from improper functioning of the body's immune system, where it accidentally attacks the body's own cells and tissues instead of just fighting pathogens such as bacteria and viruses. There are many different types of autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune Diseases Causes of autoimmune diseases The exact causes of autoimmune diseases are not yet fully understood, but there are some factors that may play a role: Causes of autoimmune diseases 01 Genetic predisposition A genetic predisposition can increase the risk of autoimmune diseases. People with certain genes may be more susceptible to developing an autoimmune disease. These genes can influence the immune system and increase the likelihood of an incorrect reaction to the body's own tissues. 02 Environmental factors Various environmental factors such as infections, smoking, diet and exposure to pollutants can increase the risk of autoimmune diseases. Some infections can confuse the immune system by having similar structures or proteins to the body's own cells, which can cause the immune system to accidentally attack the body's own tissue. 03 Hormonal changes Hormonal changes, such as those that occur during pregnancy or menopause, can affect the immune system and increase the risk of autoimmune diseases. Sex hormones, particularly estrogen, may play a role in regulating the immune system. 04 Immune system imbalance A disturbed balance in the immune system, in which certain cells or proteins are overactive, can trigger or worsen autoimmune diseases. This can be triggered by a variety of factors, including genetic abnormalities. 05 stress Chronic stress can strain the immune system and lead to inflammation, which can promote autoimmune diseases. The mechanism by which stress influences autoimmune diseases is complex and still being researched. 06 Nutritional factors Recent studies suggest that certain dietary habits may influence the risk of autoimmune diseases. A balanced diet can help keep the immune system in a healthy balance. 07 Viral diseases Viral infections can play a role in the development of autoimmune diseases. This often happens through a mechanism called molecular mimicry. In molecular mimicry, certain proteins or structures on viruses or bacteria resemble those in the body's own tissue. The immune system can then fight the pathogens, but in some cases it can also attack its own tissues that contain similar proteins or structures. It is important to note that autoimmune diseases can vary widely and not all of these factors play a role in every case. The exact cause can vary from disease to disease. Examples of autoimmune diseases Rheumatoide Arthritis Hashimoto-Thyreoiditis Multiple Sklerose (MS) Polyneuropathie Rheumatoid arthritis Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the joints. This leads to pain, inflammation and often joint deformation. Learn more Hashimoto's thyroiditis Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the thyroid. This disrupts the thyroid's hormone production, leading to symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain and mood swings. Learn more Multiple sclerosis (MS) MS is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system in which the immune system attacks the protective layer of nerve fibers known as myelin. This leads to a variety of neurological symptoms such as muscle spasms, vision problems and weakness. Learn more Polyneuropathy Polyneuropathy is a group of autoimmune diseases in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nerves. This can cause symptoms such as numbness, tingling, muscle weakness and pain in the extremities. Learn more Treatment of autoimmune diseases Anti-inflammatory drugs Anti-inflammatory medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can be used in autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus to reduce pain and inflammation. Corticosteroids are often prescribed to treat acute inflammatory attacks in various autoimmune diseases. Immunomodulating drugs Immunosuppressants such as methotrexate, azathioprine, and cyclosporine can suppress the immune system to reduce autoimmune reactions. Biological drugs such as TNF-alpha inhibitors are used to treat autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn's disease. Hormone therapy For autoimmune diseases that affect hormone production, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, hormone replacement therapy may be used to balance hormone levels in the body. Immunotherapy For some autoimmune diseases, immunotherapy may be considered to reprogram the immune system or modulate responses. Immunotherapy can be performed in a variety of ways, including the targeted removal of specific immune cells. The goal is to reduce harmful autoimmune reactions while maintaining the immune system's ability to fight pathogens. The choice of immunotherapy depends on the type of autoimmune disease, its severity and the individual needs of the patient. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation For autoimmune diseases that cause muscle weakness or joint problems, physical therapy and rehabilitation can help improve mobility and quality of life. Diet and lifestyle A balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle, including adequate exercise and stress management, can help relieve the symptoms of autoimmune diseases. surgery In some cases, surgery may be necessary to treat damage or complications from autoimmune diseases. For example, intestinal resection may be necessary for ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. Plasmapheresis In severe autoimmune diseases, especially if they are life-threatening, plasmapheresis can be considered as a last resort. Plasmapheresis, also known as therapeutic plasma exchange, involves the exchange of a large portion of the patient's plasma. The exchanged plasma is replaced either with a protein solution (human albumin) or the plasma from healthy donors. Examples of autoimmune diseases for which plasmapheresis may be considered include Guillain-Barré syndrome, myasthenia gravis, and certain forms of systemic vasculitis. Treatment options for autoimmune diseases depend on the specific disease and its severity. Some common approaches are listed below: INUSpheresis® INUSpherese® for autoimmune diseases TheINUSpheresis® is an advanced healing method for blood plasma purification, which aims to effectively separate harmful substances from the blood plasma. INUSpheresis® aims to filter out only disease-promoting (pathogenic) substances from the blood plasma, while healthy components of the plasma remain intact and are reintroduced to the body. This ensures that the organism continues to have all the nutrients and healthy components it needs. The plasma is not exchanged. INUSpherese® details In contrast to traditional blood washing, plasmapheresis or dialysis procedures, which remove a wide range of substances from the blood, INUSpheresis® aims to remove only pathogenic or harmful contaminants from the bloodstream. Targeted removal of harmful substances Preservation of vital components During treatment, vital elements such as electrolytes, proteins, nutrients, blood cells and antibodies in the patient's blood are not affected or removed. This helps maintain balance in the body. Specially developed filter INUSpheresis® uses specially designed filters that ensure only harmful or pathogenic substances are removed from the blood while the important components remain intact. Gentle and well-tolerated treatment Due to the targeted removal of harmful substances and the preservation of healthy components, INUSpheresis® is generally a gentle and well-tolerated treatment method. By removing harmful antibodies and other pathogenic factors from blood plasma, INUSpheresis® can help reduce inflammation, mitigate autoimmune reactions and relieve symptoms. However, the effect can be limited in time. In some cases, repeated INUSpherese® treatment may be necessary to keep the disease under control. INUSpheresis® appears to be a promising option for patients who require targeted removal of harmful substances from the bloodstream without affecting healthy blood components. However, as with all medical procedures, use should be carried out under medical supervision and tailored to the patient's individual needs. • ELLANN® Health I Rheumatoide Arthritis (RA)

RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS (RA) Homepage / Diseases / Autoimmune Diseases / Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Rheumatoid arthritis is a form of arthritis in which the body's immune system attacks the joints. The inner skin of the joints (synovium) is affected, usually the hands or feet. The resulting swelling and pain are very stressful for patients. In many patients, certain antibodies are found in the blood, such as rheumatoid factor and anti-CCP antibodies (autoantibodies that are directed against components of the connective tissue). Today, the autoantibodies can be differentiated very well in the laboratory, so that early detection is possible. Rheumatoid arthritis affects approximately 1% of the population and is 2-3 times more common in women. It usually begins between the ages of 35 and 50, but can occur at any age. Children can also suffer from a form of rheumatoid arthritis (juvenile idiopathic arthritis). Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) Causes of Rheumatoid Arthritis Causes of rheumatoid arthritis The exact causes of rheumatoid arthritis have not yet been fully clarified. However, it is assumed that different triggers are involved in the development. Genetic predisposition It is not yet known why the immune system attacks the joints. However, a genetic component is suspected, as familial clusters can be observed. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs three times more often in siblings and children of those affected than in people in whose families no one is affected by rheumatoid arthritis. Environmental influences There are other, largely unknown factors that can trigger or promote the onset of rheumatoid arthritis. Studies have shown above all that smoking increases the risk of the disease. In smokers, the disease is often more severe. Therapies are less effective for them. Other risk factors for rheumatoid arthritis include obesity and periodontal disease, as well as changes in the microbiome (the group of microorganisms that normally live in a specific part of the body, such as the digestive tract, mouth and lungs). Symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis In many cases, rheumatoid arthritis begins gradually, but can also manifest itself with sudden, severe symptoms. It is often the small finger and toe joints that initially show inflammation. In addition to the joints themselves, tendons, tendon attachments and ligaments can also be affected. Common symptoms of RA: ⎯⎯• Painful, warm, red and swollen joints (inflammation) ⎯⎯• Stiffness in the affected joints about 1 hour after getting up ⎯⎯• General feeling of illness with: Mild fever Tiredness and exhaustion Loss of appetite and weight loss Deterioration over time can result in the following: ⎯⎯• Inability to fully flex or extend affected joints ⎯⎯• Permanently deformed joints, especially in the hands and fingers Rheumatoid arthritis can cause problems in other organs in addition to the joints. These so-called comorbidities can e.g. B. affect the heart and vessels or the lungs. Sexual dysfunctions Treatment options for rheumatoid arthritis There are several treatment options that can help relieve the symptoms of RA and slow the progression of the disease. Here are some of the most common treatment options for rheumatoid arthritis: Drug therapies Conventional drug therapy for rheumatoid arthritis includes the use of anti-inflammatory medications, corticosteroids, and basic medications such as methotrexate. In recent years, bioengineered protein substances called biologics have also been used to suppress inflammation in the body, relieve symptoms and slow disease progression. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation Physical therapy can help improve joint mobility, strengthen muscles, and relieve pain. A physical therapist can recommend customized exercises and techniques to control symptoms and improve quality of life. Occupational therapy Occupational therapy focuses on helping patients cope better in everyday life. An occupational therapist can help use adaptive equipment to facilitate activities of daily living, as well as provide pain relief and joint protection techniques. Nutrition A healthy diet can have a positive impact on rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. It is recommended to eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and omega-3 fatty acids. Some studies have shown that certain supplements, such as fish oil, may also have anti-inflammatory properties. Stress management Stress can worsen rheumatoid arthritis symptoms. It is therefore important to reduce stress and integrate relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga or breathing exercises into everyday life. INUSpheresis® INUSpherese® as an accompanying therapy option for MS An alternative treatment option for rheumatoid arthritis is INUSpherese®, an innovative method of detoxifying the body that is used for rheumatoid arthritis and other chronic diseases. This therapy is based on a blood plasma purification technique in which harmful substances such as toxins, inflammatory mediators and pathogenic antibodies are removed from the blood. The purified blood plasma is then returned to the body. This therapy can help relieve rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and improve patients' quality of life. INUSpheresis® should only be carried out by qualified specialists. In Germany there are specialized centers and partner practices that have the necessary equipment and specialist knowledge. As a certified INUS partner, ELLANN® is one of the few centers that specializes in INUSpheresis® and accompanying therapies for the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases, environmental diseases, autoimmune diseases and long COVID. The slowly progressive death of nerve cells in the brain due to protein deposits leads to memory loss, confusion and disorientation. Alzheimer Dementia Syndrome Causes of Alzheimer dementia syndrome Causes The exact causes of accelerated brain deterioration in Alzheimer's dementia are not yet fully understood. Both genetic and environmental factors are thought to play a role. A family predisposition can increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Age and hereditary factors are believed to have a major influence on the likelihood of developing Alzheimer's dementia. Deposition of plaques in the brain Protein deposits in the brain play an important role in the development of Alzheimer's dementia. Two types of proteins have been identified, called beta-amyloid and tau. In Alzheimer's patients, these proteins are deposited in the brain in the form of plaques and fibrils. Normally these proteins are broken down. In Alzheimer's patients, this clean-up process in the brain no longer works, which inhibits the energy and oxygen supply to the brain and the nerve cells ultimately die. Genetic predisposition 5-15% of people who develop Alzheimer's disease have a familial history. In half of these cases, Alzheimer's occurs early, before the age of 65, and is usually caused by certain changes in the genetic makeup, more specifically in the gene called ApoE (Apo-Lipoprotein E). Risk factors that promote the disease ⎯⎯• High blood pressure ⎯⎯• Diabetes ⎯⎯• Lipid metabolism disorders ⎯⎯• Excessive alcohol consumption Other factors that can increase the risk of Alzheimer's dementia include advanced age, female gender and certain lifestyle factors such as unhealthy diet, lack of exercise and social isolation. Environmental influences Environmental influences are often discussed as potential causes of Alzheimer's. There are some environmental factors that are associated with an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's: ⎯⎯• Air pollution Studies suggest that long-term exposure to air pollution, particularly particulate matter, may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease. ⎯⎯•Harmful chemicals Exposure to certain harmful chemicals, such as lead and mercury, has also been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease. ⎯⎯•Pesticides and herbicides Some research suggests that exposure to pesticides and herbicides may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease. However, it is important to note that Alzheimer's is a complex disease with many factors at play. Environmental influences alone cannot reliably explain the development of Alzheimer's disease. Research in this area is still ongoing, and further studies are needed to understand the precise links between environmental factors and Alzheimer's disease. Symptoms of Alzheimer's dementia syndrome Symptoms of Alzheimer's disease usually develop gradually and worsen over time. The main difference from other dementias is that Alzheimer's usually affects short-term memory rather than other mental abilities. This manifests itself, for example, in repetitive questions, frequently misplacing objects, forgetting appointments or assigning names to familiar faces. Alzheimer's disease is otherwise associated with many similar symptoms to other dementias, such as: ⎯⎯• Memory loss ⎯⎯• Problems with language ⎯⎯• Personality changes ⎯⎯• Disorientation ⎯⎯• Problems coping with tasks in daily life ⎯⎯• fears ⎯⎯• depressions ⎯⎯• sleep disorders ⎯⎯• Illusions ⎯⎯• Aggressive or inappropriate behavior Not every person with Alzheimer's has all of these symptoms. The course of the disease can vary from person to person. Treatment options for Alzheimer's dementia syndrome Treatment primarily focuses on relieving symptoms and improving patients' quality of life. There is currently no cure for Alzheimer's dementia. Treatment usually includes a combination of drug and non-drug therapy. Medication ⎯⎯• Cholinesterase inhibitors are often prescribed to relieve cognitive symptoms ⎯⎯• Memantine can be used in combination with Cholinesterase inhibitors may be prescribed to relieve neurological symptoms ⎯⎯• Anti-dementia medications can be used to improve memory and slow disease progression Non-drug therapy ⎯⎯• Occupational therapy ⎯⎯• Music therapy ⎯⎯• Physiotherapy ⎯⎯• Social activities ⎯⎯• Memory training Diet and lifestyle A balanced diet, regular physical activity and mental stimulation can help slow the progression of the disease. In addition, the support of relatives plays an important role in the treatment of Alzheimer's dementia. Building a safe and supportive environment, providing information and training, and social inclusion can help improve patient well-being. It is important to note that Alzheimer's dementia is a progressive disease and that treatment is aimed at relieving symptoms and slowing the progression of the disease rather than curing it. INUSpheresis® INUSpherese® for Alzheimer's dementia syndrome INUSpheresis® is a therapeutic method used in the treatment of Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases. It is a form of blood plasma purification that aims to rid the body of harmful substances such as toxins, inflammatory mediators and pathogenic proteins. For many neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's, brain detoxification is indicated as part of the treatment. In addition to the protein accumulations already mentioned, it is often the light and heavy metal contamination that has accumulated in the brain and can no longer be effectively detoxified. This is where INUSpheresis® comes into play. It is a special form of blood washing that aims to specifically rid the body of harmful substances such as toxins, heavy and light metal contamination, fat accumulation in the blood, inflammatory mediators and pathogenic proteins. INUSpheresis® aims to reduce existing inflammation and support the brain in detoxification. However, it is important to emphasize that INUSpherese® therapy is not a cure for Alzheimer's, but can lead to an improvement in the symptoms and progression of the disease. Treatment results may vary depending on individual cases. We will use INUSpheresis® for various chronic diseases, including autoimmune diseases, chronic inflammation, environmental stresses and other health problems such as long-COVID. Treatment INUSpheresis Details Current therapeutic approaches to treating Alzheimer's disease remain disappointing, leaving an urgent need for effective treatments. In this study, we provide an overview of the emerging role of "metabolic inflammation" and stress as a key factor in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and propose a new concept to correct metabolic inflammation, increase resistance, and potentially slow or stop it Stopping the progression of the neurodegenerative process. Based on recent findings and the observations of an initial pilot test in 2020, we assume that extracorporeal apheresis can be used to treat Alzheimer's disease. Apolipoprotein E, lipoprotein(a), oxidized LDL (low density lipoprotein) and large LDL particles, as well as other pro-inflammatory lipids and stress hormones such as cortisol, are known to be key factors in the formation of amyloid plaques and the exacerbation of Alzheimer's disease. After extracorporeal double-membrane apheresis in patients with Alzheimer's disease, there was a significant reduction in proinflammatory lipids, circulating cytokines, immune complexes, proinflammatory metals, and toxic chaperones. INUSpheresis® was developed to remove a variety of disease-promoting substances and toxic substances from the blood. These include environmental toxins, heavy metals, allergens, metabolic products, inflammatory messengers, infection toxins and harmful proteins. Specially developed filters make it possible to specifically filter out these pollutants while preserving healthy components of the blood. INUSpherese® does not affect your vaccination protection because antibodies and immune cells that are responsible for your vaccination protection are preserved. This makes INUSpheresis® an extremely effective method for cleaning blood plasma and supporting general well-being and health. Ist die INUSpheresis® a blood wash? INUSpheresis® is not a conventional blood wash or plasma exchange method. It is also not dialysis, in which urinary substances are filtered out. INUSpheresis® is characterized by the targeted removal of harmful substances, while essential and healthy components of your blood remain untouched. This includes vital electrolytes, proteins, nutrients, blood cells and antibodies. The use of specially developed filters ensures that only pathogenic contamination is removed during the treatment. This makes the treatment particularly gentle and generally very well tolerated. How many INUSpherese® treatments are necessary? The number of INUSpherese® treatments required depends on your individual health status and health goals. A basic cycle of two treatments within 48 hours is recommended. For more intensive needs, such as extensive heavy metal elimination or complex clinical pictures, a third and even fourth treatment session every 6 to 7 weeks can make sense. Your personal treatment plan will be drawn up by our doctors after a detailed consultation. How much does an INUSpherese® treatment cost? An INUSpherese® therapy, which consists of two treatments, accompanying infusion concepts and a preparatory medical consultation, is usually priced between €5,400 and €5,700. This cost information is intended to serve as a rough guide, as the exact investment can vary depending on your individual health condition and any additional therapy options. As part of the therapy planning, you will receive detailed advice and a detailed cost overview that is individually tailored to your health goals. Frequently asked Questions

  • ELLANN® Health I Borreliose (Lyme-Borreliose)

BORRELIOSE (LYME-BORRELIOSE) Homepage / Diseases / Chronic inflammation / Borreliose (Lyme-Borreliose) Borreliose (Lyme-Borreliose) disease is a tick-borne bacterial infection. The transmitted bacteria are called Borrelia and, like the pathogens of syphilis, belong to the spirochete family of bacteria and are shaped like an irregular spiral, large and mobile. Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by bacteria that is transmitted primarily through the bite of infected ticks. The bacteria, called Borrelia burgdorferi, can enter the body when an infected tick bites a person. The most common causes of Lyme disease are therefore the bite of ticks, especially ticks of the genus Ixodes, which carry the bacteria. Once the bacteria enter the body, they can spread to various organs and tissues, causing a variety of symptoms. Borreliose (Lyme-Borreliose) Symptoms of Borreliose Symptoms of Borreliose Lyme disease progresses in three stages: Early localized stage Early disseminated stage (widespread) Late stage There is usually a symptom-free period between the early and late stages. Stage 1 A large, raised red spot (erythema migrans) usually appears at the bite site. The spot appears in about 75 percent of people 3 to 32 days after the tick bite. As a rule, this spot slowly increases in size to a diameter of up to 50 cm, with the redness in the center of the spot usually subsiding. But the appearance can vary. The center can remain red, but multiple rings can also form around the reddened center (like a target). The stain usually disappears after 3 to 4 weeks. However, in about 25 percent of those infected, a red spot does not develop or is at least not noticed. Stage 2 This stage begins when the bacteria spread throughout the body. It can begin days to weeks after the spot first appears. It is therefore important to pay attention to possible symptoms. Common symptoms of early disseminated stage of Lyme disease: ⎯⎯• exhaustion ⎯⎯• Chills ⎯⎯• Fever ⎯⎯• Headache ⎯⎯• Stiff neck ⎯⎯• Muscle pain ⎯⎯• painful joint swelling These symptoms of Lyme disease can last for weeks. Almost half of those infected who are not treated develop additional, usually smaller, red spots on other parts of the body. These symptoms are often misinterpreted and mistaken for flu or normal viral infections, especially when erythema migrans is not present. The nervous system is affected in around 15 percent of patients. The most common complications are meningitis and facial paralysis. Stage 3 If the initial infection is left untreated, further symptoms can often occur months or years later. Typical late-stage symptoms include: ⎯⎯• Lyme arthritis: Intermittent or chronic inflammation of the joints that affects one or more joints. In most cases the knee joints are affected. There is also pain in the tendons and muscles. ⎯⎯• Skin appearance: The skin on the feet and hands becomes bluish and very thin. ⎯⎯• Nerves: These can be further damaged. In severe cases, parts of the body are paralyzed. ⎯⎯• Chronic fatigue ⎯⎯• Character changes ⎯⎯• Mood swings In the worst case scenario, untreated Lyme disease can be fatal. Therapy for Borreliose Treatment for Lyme-Borreliose usually includes antibiotics, which are prescribed depending on the stage of the disease. Cases detected early can often be treated with two to four weeks of antibiotic therapy. In advanced cases, where the disease has spread further or complications have already arisen, longer antibiotic therapy may be necessary. It is important that treatment begins as soon as possible after diagnosis to reduce the risk of long-term effects. INUSpheresis® INUSpherese® for Lyme-Borreliose Borreliose has complex effects on the body. New research suggests that lipid metabolism may play a crucial role in this disease. Bacteria such as Borrelia burgdorferi are able to use the host organism's fats to survive and spread within the body. This could be why patients with Lyme disease often have altered lipid profiles, including elevated lipid levels. This suggests that elevated lipid levels may be contributing to Lyme disease persisting and causing serious complications. A pilot study examined the role of circulating lipids and lipoproteins in Lyme disease patients and observed the effects of extracorporeal double membrane filtration (INUSpheresis®) on disease progression. The lipid profiles of the subjects with Borrelia infection were analyzed before and after the use of INUSpheresis®. It was found that after INUSpheresis® the concentrations of circulating lipids such as cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, LP(a) and other inflammatory lipids decreased significantly. At the same time, disease symptoms and indicators of inflammation such as C-reactive protein (CRP) improved. Due to these promising results, we at ELLANN® offer INUSpheresis® as an accompanying therapy for Lyme disease.
