  • ELLANN® Health I Alzheimer-Demenz-Syndrom

ALZHEIMER DEMENTIA SYNDROME Homepage / Diseases / Chronical Inflammation / Alzheimer Dementia Syndrome Alzheimer's dementia syndrome, colloquially known as Alzheimer's for short, is a type of dementia that usually affects people aged 65 and over. The slowly progressive death of nerve cells in the brain due to protein deposits leads to memory loss, confusion and disorientation. Alzheimer Dementia Syndrome Causes of Alzheimer dementia syndrome Causes The exact causes of accelerated brain deterioration in Alzheimer's dementia are not yet fully understood. Both genetic and environmental factors are thought to play a role. A family predisposition can increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Age and hereditary factors are believed to have a major influence on the likelihood of developing Alzheimer's dementia. Deposition of plaques in the brain Protein deposits in the brain play an important role in the development of Alzheimer's dementia. Two types of proteins have been identified, called beta-amyloid and tau. In Alzheimer's patients, these proteins are deposited in the brain in the form of plaques and fibrils. Normally these proteins are broken down. In Alzheimer's patients, this clean-up process in the brain no longer works, which inhibits the energy and oxygen supply to the brain and the nerve cells ultimately die. Genetic predisposition 5-15% of people who develop Alzheimer's disease have a familial history. In half of these cases, Alzheimer's occurs early, before the age of 65, and is usually caused by certain changes in the genetic makeup, more specifically in the gene called ApoE (Apo-Lipoprotein E). Risk factors that promote the disease ⎯⎯• High blood pressure ⎯⎯• Diabetes ⎯⎯• Lipid metabolism disorders ⎯⎯• Excessive alcohol consumption Other factors that can increase the risk of Alzheimer's dementia include advanced age, female gender and certain lifestyle factors such as unhealthy diet, lack of exercise and social isolation. Environmental influences Environmental influences are often discussed as potential causes of Alzheimer's. There are some environmental factors that are associated with an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's: ⎯⎯• Air pollution Studies suggest that long-term exposure to air pollution, particularly particulate matter, may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease. ⎯⎯•Harmful chemicals Exposure to certain harmful chemicals, such as lead and mercury, has also been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease. ⎯⎯•Pesticides and herbicides Some research suggests that exposure to pesticides and herbicides may increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease. However, it is important to note that Alzheimer's is a complex disease with many factors at play. Environmental influences alone cannot reliably explain the development of Alzheimer's disease. Research in this area is still ongoing, and further studies are needed to understand the precise links between environmental factors and Alzheimer's disease. Symptoms of Alzheimer's dementia syndrome Symptoms of Alzheimer's disease usually develop gradually and worsen over time. The main difference from other dementias is that Alzheimer's usually affects short-term memory rather than other mental abilities. This manifests itself, for example, in repetitive questions, frequently misplacing objects, forgetting appointments or assigning names to familiar faces. Alzheimer's disease is otherwise associated with many similar symptoms to other dementias, such as: ⎯⎯• Memory loss ⎯⎯• Problems with language ⎯⎯• Personality changes ⎯⎯• Disorientation ⎯⎯• Problems coping with tasks in daily life ⎯⎯• fears ⎯⎯• depressions ⎯⎯• sleep disorders ⎯⎯• Illusions ⎯⎯• Aggressive or inappropriate behavior Not every person with Alzheimer's has all of these symptoms. The course of the disease can vary from person to person. Treatment options for Alzheimer's dementia syndrome Treatment primarily focuses on relieving symptoms and improving patients' quality of life. There is currently no cure for Alzheimer's dementia. Treatment usually includes a combination of drug and non-drug therapy. Medication ⎯⎯• Cholinesterase inhibitors are often prescribed to relieve cognitive symptoms ⎯⎯• Memantine can be used in combination with Cholinesterase inhibitors may be prescribed to relieve neurological symptoms ⎯⎯• Anti-dementia medications can be used to improve memory and slow disease progression Non-drug therapy ⎯⎯• Occupational therapy ⎯⎯• Music therapy ⎯⎯• Physiotherapy ⎯⎯• Social activities ⎯⎯• Memory training Diet and lifestyle A balanced diet, regular physical activity and mental stimulation can help slow the progression of the disease. In addition, the support of relatives plays an important role in the treatment of Alzheimer's dementia. Building a safe and supportive environment, providing information and training, and social inclusion can help improve patient well-being. It is important to note that Alzheimer's dementia is a progressive disease and that treatment is aimed at relieving symptoms and slowing the progression of the disease rather than curing it. INUSpheresis® INUSpherese® for Alzheimer's dementia syndrome INUSpheresis® is a therapeutic method used in the treatment of Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases. It is a form of blood plasma purification that aims to rid the body of harmful substances such as toxins, inflammatory mediators and pathogenic proteins. For many neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's, brain detoxification is indicated as part of the treatment. In addition to the protein accumulations already mentioned, it is often the light and heavy metal contamination that has accumulated in the brain and can no longer be effectively detoxified. This is where INUSpheresis® comes into play. It is a special form of blood washing that aims to specifically rid the body of harmful substances such as toxins, heavy and light metal contamination, fat accumulation in the blood, inflammatory mediators and pathogenic proteins. INUSpheresis® aims to reduce existing inflammation and support the brain in detoxification. However, it is important to emphasize that INUSpherese® therapy is not a cure for Alzheimer's, but can lead to an improvement in the symptoms and progression of the disease. Treatment results may vary depending on individual cases. We will use INUSpheresis® for various chronic diseases, including autoimmune diseases, chronic inflammation, environmental stresses and other health problems such as long-COVID. Treatment INUSpheresis Details Current therapeutic approaches to treating Alzheimer's disease remain disappointing, leaving an urgent need for effective treatments. In this study, we provide an overview of the emerging role of "metabolic inflammation" and stress as a key factor in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease and propose a new concept to correct metabolic inflammation, increase resistance, and potentially slow or stop it Stopping the progression of the neurodegenerative process. Based on recent findings and the observations of an initial pilot test in 2020, we assume that extracorporeal apheresis can be used to treat Alzheimer's disease. Apolipoprotein E, lipoprotein(a), oxidized LDL (low density lipoprotein) and large LDL particles, as well as other pro-inflammatory lipids and stress hormones such as cortisol, are known to be key factors in the formation of amyloid plaques and the exacerbation of Alzheimer's disease. After extracorporeal double-membrane apheresis in patients with Alzheimer's disease, there was a significant reduction in proinflammatory lipids, circulating cytokines, immune complexes, proinflammatory metals, and toxic chaperones. Study Situation Studies & Publications Alzheimer's study Which diagnoses can INUSpheresis® help with? ⎯⎯• Allergies ⎯⎯• Lyme disease ⎯⎯• Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) ⎯⎯• Chronic hepatitis C ⎯⎯• Hashimoto ⎯⎯• Hyperlipidemia ⎯⎯• Crohn's disease ⎯⎯• multiple sclerosis ⎯⎯• Multiple Chemical Hyper- sensitivity syndrome (MCS) ⎯⎯• Parkinson's ⎯⎯• Post-COVID syndrome ⎯⎯• Post-vac syndrome ⎯⎯• Rheumatism (chronic inflammatory) ⎯⎯• Heavy metal poisoning ⎯⎯• and more What exactly is filtered by INUSpherese®? INUSpherese® can be easily integrated into holistic medicine as it is a gentle method for blood purification. It can be used as a standalone treatment or in conjunction with other therapeutic approaches to support and strengthen the body on a holistic level. INUSpheresis® Effectiveness and study situation Our medical team at ELLANN® consists of highly qualified and compassionate professionals who are passionate about your well-being. Each team member brings unique skills and experience to provide you with personalized, comprehensive care. Studies & News During INUSpheresis®, the patient's blood is drained from the body and passed through a special filter that can efficiently remove harmful substances and pro-inflammatory proteins. During the process, the blood is broken down into its main components so that the harmful substances can be selectively removed. The healthy blood components, including vital proteins, electrolytes and antibodies, are returned to the body. This selective process distinguishes INUSpheresis® from other blood purification procedures. During INUSpheresis®, an osmotic effect is created that makes it possible to remove pathogens not only from the blood, but also from the connective tissue, fatty tissue, nerve tissue, the eyes and all internal organs. How INUSpherese® works Difference from therapeutic apheresis INUSpheresis® represents a further development of therapeutic apheresis, although it is based on similar principles. Special filters with intelligent membranes and a specially designed device can also be used to specifically treat diseases for which apheresis has not previously been used. This technical adaptation offers numerous advantages, in particular more efficient filtration of harmful proteins and toxins. With the INUSpherese® does not occurExchange of blood plasma , as in plasmapheresis. During plasmapheresis, the exchanged plasma is replaced either with a protein solution (human albumin) or the plasma from healthy donors. In contrast to many other blood purification procedures, INUSpheresis® retains important proteins, electrolytes and antibodies in the blood. This ensures that the body is optimally supplied during treatment and does not lose any vital nutrients. INUSpheresis® differs fundamentally from dialysis, which is a proven method for removing urinary substances in patients with impaired kidney function. In contrast, INUSpheresis® is used to eliminate misdirected autoimmune antibodies, inflammatory messengers and environmental toxins, strengthen the immune system and reduce inflammatory processes. While dialysis is primarily used for patients with kidney problems, INUSpheresis® can help a broader group of patients struggling with autoimmune diseases, chronic inflammation, environmental stresses and long-COVID. Difference from dialysis What is filtered? INUSpheresis® was developed to remove a variety of disease-promoting substances and toxic substances from the blood. This includes: ⎯⎯• Lipids and lipoprotein-a ⎯⎯• Pathogenic proteins ⎯⎯• Paraproteins ⎯⎯• Pathoproteins, haptens ⎯⎯• Pathogenous antibodies, auto-antibodies ⎯⎯• Tumor-associated proteins ⎯⎯• Circulating immune complexes ⎯⎯• Inflammatory substances (e.g. CRP, TNF-a) ⎯⎯• Toxic substances (environmental toxins) ⎯⎯• Heavy metals ⎯⎯• Pesticides ⎯⎯• Fungicides ⎯⎯• Microplastics Double plasma filtration and the use of intelligent filters make it possible to specifically wash out these pollutants while preserving healthy components of the blood. INUSpherese® does not affect vaccination protection because antibodies and immune cells that are responsible for vaccination protection are preserved. This makes INUSpheresis® an extremely effective method for cleaning blood plasma and supporting general well-being and health. The "INUS TKM58" secondary filter has an immunological membrane with fine pores and a special structure that is designed to specifically eliminate pathogenic proteins and toxic substances bound to proteins. The TKM58 works by filtering according to size, shape and weight. The secondary filter "INUS-30" is a lipid filter and is used in patients with hypercholesterolemia. In contrast to conventional filters, INUSpherese® uses finer pore filters. This makes it possible to remove up to 80% of lipids from blood plasma, which leads to improvement of microcirculation and reduction of inflammatory markers and fibrinogen. The INUS filters are disposable filters. Diagnosis A careful diagnosis at the beginning of every treatment is like a guide for our doctors and therapists. INUSpheresis® is an advanced therapy method that has the potential to improve the quality of life of many patients. Nevertheless, it should be noted that, as with any medical treatment, individual patient conditions must be taken into account as they can influence the applicability and effectiveness of the therapy. The following are specific health conditions for which the use of INUSpherese® should be considered particularly carefully in consultation with the medical team: ⎯⎯• Acute fever or inflammatory processes ⎯⎯• Recent strokes ⎯⎯• Acute heart disease ⎯⎯• Organ failure ⎯⎯• Advanced cancers ⎯⎯• Psychiatric disorders, including psychoses or anxiety neuroses ⎯⎯• Multimorbidity (the presence of multiple serious illnesses) This serves as a guide for a comprehensive discussion between patients and our ELLANN® medical team. The joint discussion allows the treatment plan to be adjusted according to the individual health conditions of the patient, with the ultimate goal always being to achieve the best possible health outcome for each patient. Despite the low side effects that INUSpheresis® brings with it compared to other invasive procedures, we are fully aware of our responsibility towards our patients. Our goal is for you to feel safe and secure throughout the entire treatment process. That's why every INUSpheresis® is personally accompanied and monitored by Ms. Kellermann, a specialist in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine. The fact that all INUSpherese® treatments are carried out under the continuous supervision of an intensive care doctor is a special feature that distinguishes ELLANN® from other centers. Because the well-being and safety of our patients are our top priority. Safety and side effects Ms. Kellermann, specialist in anesthesiology and intensive care medicine Process of the INUSpherese® treatment The INUSpherese® treatment takes place in our specially equipped rooms, which are designed for optimal outpatient treatment. The therapy is carried out in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. The treatment itself is gentle and painless. Preparation for INUSpheresis® Before INUSpheresis® is carried out, a thorough anamnesis and diagnosis is necessary. It may be useful to check certain laboratory parameters to determine whether this therapy is recommended for you. These include classic laboratory values such as CRP, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, interleukin 16 and 8 and tumor necrosis factor. You can find out more about our laboratory standards under Diagnostics and in a personal consultation. The day before treatment No special preparations are required before an INUSpherese® treatment. You can eat and exercise as usual. It is recommended to drink sufficient fluids the day before treatment, ideally around 3 liters. On the day of treatment On the day of INUSpheresis® You are advised to have a good breakfast and stop drinking about 2 hours before treatment to avoid going to the toilet during treatment. During treatment At the beginning of the procedure, infusion lines are inserted into the right and left armpits. During therapy, the blood from one arm passes through the filter system of a special INUS machine. The blood first passes through the first filter, which separates the solid blood components from the plasma. The solid components enter an air trap that ensures that no air is returned to the patient. The plasma is then passed through the secondary filter, where it is filtered using special membranes. Contaminants accumulate inside the filter while the cleaned plasma is pushed out through the membrane. The filtered plasma is then heated by a heater and reunited with the solid blood components from the air trap before finally being directed back into the body via the other armpit. The filtered pollutants are transported further from the second filter and collected in a bag (eluate) so that they can later be examined in a medical laboratory. The INUS device is equipped with state-of-the-art sensors and controls that precisely monitor and adjust the process. The complete INUSpherese® treatment usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours. During this time, our patients are continuously monitored technically and personally. After treatment After the INUSpherese® treatment, it is important to drink enough fluids to hydrate the body. It is recommended to drink plenty of water to replenish fluid loss. In addition, it is advisable to eat a balanced meal to provide the body with the necessary nutrients. It is recommended to avoid fatty or heavy meals as these can put a strain on digestion. Instead, easily digestible foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can be good choices. However, it is always best to follow the specific recommendations of your doctor or healthcare professional as they can provide the most accurate information for your individual case. INUSpherese® is an extremely gentle treatment method with almost no side effects. Since it is still considered a minimal procedure, we recommend not driving a motor vehicle or bicycle on the day of treatment or for the following 24 hours. At the patient's request or on medical advice, the eluate (the liquid with residues filtered out) is sent for laboratory medical analyzes in order to determine the amounts of pollutants and pathogenic plasma residues that have been excreted. The cost of the laboratory test varies depending on the type of analysis desired and is discussed in advance with the patient. Particularly in the case of certain underlying diseases, these results are used to monitor the course of treatment and further therapy planning. • ELLANN® Health I Colitis ulcerosa

ULCEROSAL COLITIS Homepage / Diseases / Chronical Inflammation / Ucelerotic Colitis Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammation of the lining of the colon. It progresses in spurts, so that phases of illness alternate with periods without symptoms. Ulcerative colitis only affects the large intestine and is limited to the top layer of the intestinal wall, namely the intestinal mucosa. “Ulcers” form there, i.e. wounds and shallow defects in the mucous membrane. The disease progresses in episodes and is characterized by various symptoms. The long-term risk of colorectal cancer is increased compared to people who do not suffer from ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative Colitis Causes of Ulcerative Colitis Causes of Ulcerative Colitis The exact causes of ulcerative colitis are not yet fully known. However, it is assumed that a combination of genetic predisposition, environmental influences and a disturbed intestinal barrier can promote the development of the disease. Genetic predisposition There is a genetic predisposition to ulcerative colitis. If other family members have inflammatory bowel disease, the risk of the disease is increased. However, only the predisposition is inherited, not the disease itself. Environmental influences Certain environmental influences can promote the occurrence of ulcerative colitis. These include infections, certain food components or lifestyle. It is thought that improved hygiene standards and a Western lifestyle may increase the risk of the disease. Impaired intestinal barrier In people with ulcerative colitis, the protective mucous layer on the intestinal lining is often thinner than in healthy people. This weakens the intestinal barrier and allows bacteria and other harmful substances to penetrate the intestinal wall more easily. This leads to activation of the immune system and an inflammatory response. Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis Ulcerative colitis can cause a variety of symptoms that may occur during an acute flare-up. The disease often progresses in episodes, with phases alternating with and without symptoms. The typical symptoms of ulcerative colitis include: Other symptoms can include: ⎯⎯• Diarrhea, often mixed with blood or mucus ⎯⎯• Crampy abdominal pain, often in the left lower abdomen ⎯⎯• Bleeding from the anus and anemia as a result of the bleeding ⎯⎯• Fever and general feeling of illness ⎯⎯• Weight loss ⎯⎯• Fatigue ⎯⎯• Constant urge to defecate with the feeling of having to defecate urgently or uncontrollably ⎯⎯• Frequent bowel movements, up to 20 times per day ⎯⎯• Nocturnal bowel movements Complaints outside the intestines are often expressed through inflammation: ⎯⎯• Skin ⎯⎯• Eyes ⎯⎯• Joints Symptoms can vary depending on the extent and severity of the inflammation. It is important to note that not all patients with ulcerative colitis have all symptoms and that symptoms can also vary from person to person. Treatment options for Ulcerative Colitis Treatment for ulcerative colitis aims to control inflammation and relieve symptoms. The therapy usually takes place in close collaboration with a specialist in gastroenterology and can consist of various measures. Here are some therapy options: Medication There are several anti-inflammatory medications that can be used to treat ulcerative colitis. These include aminosalicylates, corticosteroids, immunosuppressants and biologics. The choice of medication depends on the severity of the disease and the individual needs of the patient. Nutritional therapy A healthy and balanced diet plays an important role in the treatment of ulcerative colitis. In some cases, a special diet, such as the anti-inflammatory diet, may be helpful to relieve symptoms and support gut health. Surgical interventions In severe cases or complications, surgery may be necessary. The affected section of intestine can be removed to relieve symptoms and improve the patient's quality of life. However, surgery is usually only necessary if other treatment methods do not provide sufficient relief. It is important to note that treatment of ulcerative colitis must be individualized and that regular care from a gastroenterologist is important to monitor the progression of the disease and adjust therapy accordingly. INUSpheresis® INUSpherese® for ulcerative colitis The INUSpherese® treatment aims to address the underlying causes and thus have a positive influence on chronic inflammation. With INUSpherese® technology, we use blood filtration to specifically eliminate harmful substances that contribute to disease promotion and inflammation, such as environmental toxins and misdirected autoimmune antibodies. At the same time, a demonstrable reduction in inflammatory messengers such as CRP or TNF-a in the blood can be achieved. The aim of INUSpheresis® is to improve the patient's well-being and health in the long term. It can help strengthen the immune system and the body's own self-healing powers. However, it is important to emphasize that INUSpheresis® is a medical procedure and should only be performed by qualified professionals. There are only a few centers in Germany that offer this technology and it is mostly used by experienced doctors in combination with other holistic therapeutic approaches. • ELLANN® Health I Multiple Sklerose (MS)

MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS Home page /diseases /Autoimmune diseases / Multiple Sk Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune, chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. In MS, the immune system mistakenly attacks and damages the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. The word sclerosis means scarring. “Scars appear on nerves,” meaning they can no longer work properly. MS mostly occurs in young people (between the ages of 20 and 40), and is twice as common in women as in men. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) causes The exact mechanism of how chronic fatigue syndrome develops has so far only been partially understood. The disease begins with an infection - usually in full health. Possible triggers can be: ⎯⎯• Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and other herpes viruses ⎯⎯• Dengue viruses ⎯⎯• Coxsackie viruses ⎯⎯• Influenza ⎯⎯• Borrelia ⎯⎯• Bacteria (Legionella, Coxial) There are a number of proven connections that suggest that CFS is an autoimmune disease in at least some patients. Most people with chronic fatigue syndrome are highly productive until the disease occurs. As a rule, the disorder occurs suddenly and often after a stressful event. These risk factors include: ⎯⎯• Immune defects ⎯⎯• Other cases in the family ⎯⎯• Vulnerable phase with physical or psychological stress Causes of MS Causes of MS The cause of MS is still unknown. However, most doctors believe those affected may have been exposed to a virus or unknown substance at a young age. This exposure may have caused the immune system to attack the body's own tissue, triggering an autoimmune reaction. However, the exact connection is not yet known. It is further believed that a combination of genetic, environmental and immunological factors contribute to this condition. There are some theories that point to specific causes: Genetic predisposition There is evidence that MS has a genetic component. People with a family member who has MS are at higher risk of developing the disease themselves. Environmental influences Certain environmental and geographical conditions can also influence the risk of MS. The closer a person grows up to the equator, the lower their risk of MS. The risk increases further south and north. Northern Europe and North America have the highest incidence rates. A vitamin D deficiency due to too little sunlight may play a role. In addition, among other things, Viral infections (e.g. caused by measles viruses, herpes viruses or Epstein-Barr viruses), Lyme disease and smoking are discussed. It is important to note that autoimmune diseases can vary widely and not all of these factors play a role in every case. The exact cause can vary from disease to disease. Environmental factors as triggers Chronic inflammation has been increasing worldwide for decades, and the causes are diverse. Environmental toxins, which are ubiquitous, especially in industrialized countries, play an important role. New chemicals that are not beneficial to human health have found their way into our daily lifestyle. They can be found in household cleaning products, personal care products, cosmetics, textiles, indoor pollution, air pollution and, above all, in food. Depending on the individual's ability to detoxify, these chemicals accumulate in different tissues and organs. This can lead to numerous health problems, including eye disease, heart problems, kidney and thyroid disease, and neurological disorders. Clinical pictures and effects Primär-chronische Entzündungen Sekundär-chronische Entzündungen Primary chronic inflammation develop gradually and manifest themselves through slow or intermittent symptoms. The duration of an inflammatory attack often lasts longer than four weeks and complete healing is usually not possible. Examples of primary chronic inflammation are diseases such as type 1 diabetes or autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis or Crohn's disease, in which the symptoms gradually progress. Learn more Secondary chronic inflammationusually occur after an acute inflammation that has not completely healed. The healing process is often lengthy. Examples of such chronic forms are diseases such as chronic hepatitis, chronic myocarditis, stomach ulcer (ulcer) or chronic tonsillitis. These often occur after untreated acute inflammation and manifest as long-lasting problems. Learn more A variety of diseases can be caused by chronic inflammation. We differentiate between primary-chronic inflammation and secondary-chronic inflammation: Symptoms of MS Because MS attacks different nerves, patients' symptoms vary. The pattern in which symptoms appear and subside also varies. Early symptoms and signs of illness that occur particularly frequently in MS are: ⎯⎯• Spastic paralysis symptoms ⎯⎯• Visual problems with blurred or foggy vision as an expression of inflammation of the optic nerves (optic neuritis) ⎯⎯• Sensation disorders of the skin (“sensitivity disorders”), usually in the form of tingling, (painful) sensations or a feeling of numbness ⎯⎯• Uncertainty when walking or grasping ⎯⎯• Double vision ⎯⎯• Bladder disorders ⎯⎯• “Slurred” speech Multiple sclerosis can also cause numerous other symptoms, which can occur individually or in combination. These later symptoms of MS are: ⎯⎯• Spastic paralysis symptoms ⎯⎯• Problems controlling the urge to urinate or defecate ⎯⎯• Difficulty with balance and walking ⎯⎯• Fatigue and feeling weak ⎯⎯• Slow, slurred speech ⎯⎯• Depressive moods and depression ⎯⎯• Limitations in attention, memory and concentration. ⎯⎯• Pain ⎯⎯• Dizziness ⎯⎯• Sexual dysfunctions Pains swelling Inflammation often leads to swelling and can cause tissue damage. Redness Inflamed areas may be red and warmer than the surrounding skin. Stiffness Joints can become stiff and less mobile when affected by inflammation. exhaustion Chronic inflammation can cause general tiredness and fatigue. Fever An increased body temperature can indicate inflammation, although this is not always the case. weight loss For some people, chronic inflammation can lead to unwanted weight loss. Organ change Depending on the area affected, chronic inflammation can lead to permanent organ damage. anamnese The detailed medical history survey serves to collect information about symptoms, previous history and possible risk factors. Physical examination A thorough physical examination may reveal evidence of inflammation, such as swelling, redness, pain, or limited mobility. Laboratory tests In laboratory tests, doctors use special blood tests to determine whether there is inflammation in the body. Various markers are examined here: C-reactive protein (CRP): This is where the biomarker CRP is determined in the blood, which is often used to assess inflammation in the body. Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR): The ESR measures how quickly red blood cells settle in the blood. This value is often used to detect inflammation or other diseases in the body. Interleukins 1, 6 and 8: The values provide information about the presence of inflammatory messengers called interleukins, which are crucial in the body's immune response to infections and inflammation. Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α): This test examines TNF-α in the blood, a protein that is involved in inflammatory processes. Imaging procedures Depending on whether a particular inflammation is suspected, an imaging test such as X-rays, CT scans or MRI scans may be required to examine the affected areas in more detail. biopsy In some cases, a tissue biopsy may be necessary to make an accurate diagnosis. This involves taking a small sample of tissue and examining it under a microscope. Endoscopy If there is inflammation in the digestive tract, an endoscopy can be performed to more accurately assess the condition of the mucous membrane. Diagnostics for chronic diseases Chronic inflammatory diseases often affect more than just one organ system. The diagnosis of chronic inflammation can be complex and depends on the type of inflammation and the patient's individual circumstances. At ELLANN® we work together with specialized doctors on an interdisciplinary basis, because thorough diagnostics are essential for optimal therapy planning. Treatment options for MS There are various treatment options for MS, which can vary depending on the course of the disease, severity and individual needs. Drug therapies There are several medications used to treat MS, aimed at modifying the course of the disease, reducing inflammation, and relieving symptoms. These include immunomodulators, immunosuppressants, steroids and newer medications such as monoclonal antibodies. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation These therapies can help improve physical functionality, manage symptoms, and increase quality of life. This includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and other rehabilitation measures. Supportive therapies This includes symptom relief measures such as pain management, nutritional advice, psychological support and counseling. Lifestyle adjustments A healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet, regular exercise and stress management can have a positive influence on the course of the disease. It is important that the treatment of MS is individualized and carried out in consultation with a doctor or neurologist. New treatment options and research results can further develop therapy options, so it is advisable to regularly keep yourself informed about current developments. INUSpheresis® INUSpherese® as an accompanying therapy option for MS There is currently no cure for multiple sclerosis, only options to alleviate the symptoms. If symptoms worsen acutely during standard drug therapy, more intensive treatment and the use of additional procedures may be helpful. INUSpherese® therapy shows promising results in some MS patients by effectively filtering known factors such as heavy metals and other environmental toxins, inflammatory mediators, autoimmune antibodies, pro-inflammatory cytokines and immune complexes from the blood. This treatment aims to reduce harmful substances, improve blood flow in small blood vessels and ensure that the body receives sufficient oxygen. This is intended to slow down damage that leads to deterioration in the course of the disease. Our medical team at ELLANN® advises patients with MS and their relatives individually on the available treatment options and provides information on whether INUSpheresis® is indicated as an accompanying therapy procedure to alleviate symptoms. • ELLANN® Health I Borreliose (Lyme-Borreliose)

BORRELIOSE (LYME-BORRELIOSE) Homepage / Diseases / Chronic inflammation / Borreliose (Lyme-Borreliose) Borreliose (Lyme-Borreliose) disease is a tick-borne bacterial infection. The transmitted bacteria are called Borrelia and, like the pathogens of syphilis, belong to the spirochete family of bacteria and are shaped like an irregular spiral, large and mobile. Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by bacteria that is transmitted primarily through the bite of infected ticks. The bacteria, called Borrelia burgdorferi, can enter the body when an infected tick bites a person. The most common causes of Lyme disease are therefore the bite of ticks, especially ticks of the genus Ixodes, which carry the bacteria. Once the bacteria enter the body, they can spread to various organs and tissues, causing a variety of symptoms. Borreliose (Lyme-Borreliose) Symptoms of Borreliose Symptoms of Borreliose Lyme disease progresses in three stages: Early localized stage Early disseminated stage (widespread) Late stage There is usually a symptom-free period between the early and late stages. Stage 1 A large, raised red spot (erythema migrans) usually appears at the bite site. The spot appears in about 75 percent of people 3 to 32 days after the tick bite. As a rule, this spot slowly increases in size to a diameter of up to 50 cm, with the redness in the center of the spot usually subsiding. But the appearance can vary. The center can remain red, but multiple rings can also form around the reddened center (like a target). The stain usually disappears after 3 to 4 weeks. However, in about 25 percent of those infected, a red spot does not develop or is at least not noticed. Stage 2 This stage begins when the bacteria spread throughout the body. It can begin days to weeks after the spot first appears. It is therefore important to pay attention to possible symptoms. Common symptoms of early disseminated stage of Lyme disease: ⎯⎯• exhaustion ⎯⎯• Chills ⎯⎯• Fever ⎯⎯• Headache ⎯⎯• Stiff neck ⎯⎯• Muscle pain ⎯⎯• painful joint swelling These symptoms of Lyme disease can last for weeks. Almost half of those infected who are not treated develop additional, usually smaller, red spots on other parts of the body. These symptoms are often misinterpreted and mistaken for flu or normal viral infections, especially when erythema migrans is not present. The nervous system is affected in around 15 percent of patients. The most common complications are meningitis and facial paralysis. Stage 3 If the initial infection is left untreated, further symptoms can often occur months or years later. Typical late-stage symptoms include: ⎯⎯• Lyme arthritis: Intermittent or chronic inflammation of the joints that affects one or more joints. In most cases the knee joints are affected. There is also pain in the tendons and muscles. ⎯⎯• Skin appearance: The skin on the feet and hands becomes bluish and very thin. ⎯⎯• Nerves: These can be further damaged. In severe cases, parts of the body are paralyzed. ⎯⎯• Chronic fatigue ⎯⎯• Character changes ⎯⎯• Mood swings In the worst case scenario, untreated Lyme disease can be fatal. Therapy for Borreliose Treatment for Lyme-Borreliose usually includes antibiotics, which are prescribed depending on the stage of the disease. Cases detected early can often be treated with two to four weeks of antibiotic therapy. In advanced cases, where the disease has spread further or complications have already arisen, longer antibiotic therapy may be necessary. It is important that treatment begins as soon as possible after diagnosis to reduce the risk of long-term effects. INUSpheresis® INUSpherese® for Lyme-Borreliose Borreliose has complex effects on the body. New research suggests that lipid metabolism may play a crucial role in this disease. Bacteria such as Borrelia burgdorferi are able to use the host organism's fats to survive and spread within the body. This could be why patients with Lyme disease often have altered lipid profiles, including elevated lipid levels. This suggests that elevated lipid levels may be contributing to Lyme disease persisting and causing serious complications. A pilot study examined the role of circulating lipids and lipoproteins in Lyme disease patients and observed the effects of extracorporeal double membrane filtration (INUSpheresis®) on disease progression. The lipid profiles of the subjects with Borrelia infection were analyzed before and after the use of INUSpheresis®. It was found that after INUSpheresis® the concentrations of circulating lipids such as cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL, LP(a) and other inflammatory lipids decreased significantly. At the same time, disease symptoms and indicators of inflammation such as C-reactive protein (CRP) improved. Due to these promising results, we at ELLANN® offer INUSpheresis® as an accompanying therapy for Lyme disease. • ELLANN® Health I Umwelterkrankungen

B. Pollenallergien).  ENVIRONMENTAL DISEASES Homepage / Diseases / Environmental Diseases The term “environmental diseases” refers to diseases that have been shown to be promoted, triggered or maintained by specific environmental factors. Many diseases are associated with environmental factors. Some can occur without these influences (e.g. migraines), while others arise solely from external factors (e.g. pollen allergies). Our daily lives bring us into contact with a variety of toxic substances. Pesticides are contained in many agricultural products, and foods contain numerous additives such as flavors, colors and preservatives. Cosmetics and care products can also contain toxic ingredients. We even find chemicals in the air we breathe, such as solvents from paint and other furnishings. A person's ability to detoxify depends heavily on their genetic factors. Some people are better at breaking down toxins than others, based on genetic variations in enzymes involved in detoxification. These genetic differences may cause some people to be more sensitive to environmental toxins and have a higher risk of health problems. Environmental Diseases Causes of environmental diseases Environmental diseases are, as the name suggests, caused by various environmental factors. These factors can be roughly divided into biological, chemical and physical influences. These “trigger effects” can trigger one or more environmental diseases. Biological environmental factors Biological environmental factors include pathogens that can colonize under certain conditions, as well as allergens such as pollen and ticks. Mold and pathogenic germs can spread under unfavorable environmental conditions. Another aspect is introduced poisonous plants from tropical regions. Chemical environmental factors Chemical environmental factors include environmental toxins such as arsenic, lead, chromium, pesticides, mercury and radioactive particles. In addition, synthetic compounds enter the environment through products such as cosmetics, medicines and detergents and accumulate there. Air pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and particulate matter, as well as construction-related pollutants such as asbestos and polychlorinated biphenyls, also contribute to environmental diseases. Physical environmental factors Physical environmental factors include radioactive radiation, infrasound, noise, UV radiation and electromagnetic fields. These factors can also cause health problems. Examples of environmental diseases MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) Toxikologisch induzierter Toleranzverlust (TILT) Multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) is a medical term for increased sensitivity to various chemical substances that would not normally cause health problems at low concentrations. This sensitivity leads to symptoms that can manifest in various organ and systemic systems of the body. It is important to know that these symptoms occur when levels of these chemical substances are well below levels considered harmful to most people. In addition, in people with MCS, the body's ability to detoxify is impaired. In the past, MCS has often been associated with psychosomatic elements. This may be because neuropsychological symptoms are often prominent and because women are more commonly affected by MCS (for various reasons). Unfortunately, this has led to some stigmatization of women suffering from MCS, and their complaints have often not been taken seriously. Environmental diseases are now being intensively discussed and researched worldwide and those affected are taken seriously in their suffering. Learn more Toxicologically induced loss of tolerance (TILT) is a two-stage disease process. It affects a specific group of people who are prone to a variety of symptoms and new intolerances after a large amount of chemical substances or repeated minor exposures. Symptoms of TILT may include: fatigue Headache weakness skin rash Mood swings Memory problems Difficulty concentrating (often referred to as "brain fog" or brain fog) Breathing problems Unlike known disease mechanisms such as cancer or hormonal imbalances, which develop gradually, the explanation for TILT does not fit into standard toxicology or allergy research. TILT takes place in two phases: Initiation (Phase I) This phase begins when a person is exposed to certain chemicals that normally affect the immune system and/or nervous system. In this phase, the chemical must interact with one or both of these systems in a way that makes the person sensitive to future triggers. Triggering (Phase II) After initiation, affected individuals are no longer able to tolerate everyday exposures to various chemical substances, even those that they previously tolerated well. These can be various things such as fragrances, cleaning products, smoke, certain foods or medications, and even materials that come into contact with the skin. Exposure to these triggers results in the symptoms mentioned above. Even foods and medications that were previously tolerated can now trigger symptoms. Overall, TILT causes the body to become hypersensitive to many different substances, which can lead to a variety of health problems. Learn more There are also other illnesses that can occur as environmental illnesses, including: ADHD Allergies asthma Autoimmune diseases high blood pressure Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) intestinal inflammation depressions Fibromyalgia migraine multiple sclerosis Neurodermatitis Polyneuropathies However, this is just a list of common environmental diseases, as there are many others that are linked to environmental factors. Symptoms Environmental toxins can cause different symptoms and health consequences, depending on the type of toxin and the exposure time (how long one was exposed to the toxin). Here are some common symptoms: Respiratory problems Some environmental toxins, such as air pollutants and smoke, can cause respiratory problems such as coughing, shortness of breath and asthma. Skin problems Exposure to certain chemicals or pollutants may cause skin irritation, rashes or dermatitis. Gastrointestinal complaints Ingesting contaminated water or food can cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Headache and dizziness Some toxins can cause neurological symptoms such as headaches, dizziness and confusion. Reproductive problems Some environmental toxins can affect fertility and cause reproductive problems. Allergic reaction Some people may develop allergic reactions to certain environmental toxins. Long-term exposure to environmental toxins can cause significant health problems, including Cancer, organ failure andserious neurological disorders . Other long-term consequences can include: depression miscarriage sleep disorders Metabolic diseases (leaky gut syndrome) It is important to note that the symptoms and consequences of environmental toxins can vary depending on individual sensitivity as well as ability to detoxify, length of exposure, and type of toxin. Long-term health consequences Treatment of environmental diseases The treatment of environmental diseases is very individual as the triggers and symptoms can vary from person to person. Some approaches are listed below: Avoiding triggers The first step in managing environmental illnesses is to identify triggers and minimize exposure to them. This may mean removing or avoiding certain foods, chemicals, fragrances, or other substances from the immediate environment. Environmental control Improving air quality in your home and work environment can help reduce symptoms. This may include removing sources of pollution, using air purifiers, and improving ventilation. Nutrition A well-thought-out diet can help control symptoms. A nutritionist can help you create a diet tailored to your specific intolerances. Supportive therapy Some patients benefit from supportive therapy approaches aimed at relieving symptoms. This includes the use of pain relievers, antihistamines, or other medications that may be prescribed depending on individual needs. Psychological support Since environmental illnesses are often associated with psychological stress, support from a psychologist or psychiatrist can be helpful in dealing with the emotional challenges of the illness. detoxification INUSpherese® therapy is an advanced method for purifying blood plasma, also known as environmental apheresis. • ELLANN® Health I Morbus Crohn

CROHN'S DISEASE Homepage / Diseases / Chronic inflammation / Morbus Crohn Morbus Crohn, like ulcerative colitis, is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease. It is a complex barrier disease in which the protective function of the intestinal mucosa, which normally acts as a barrier against bacteria and foreign substances, is disrupted. This disorder, combined with the reduced ability of certain cells to recognize and fight bacteria, allows bacteria to invade the intestines, which in turn results in an immune reaction and the inflammation that is triggered. This long-term inflammation ultimately leads to tissue damage. In contrast to ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease can manifest itself in the entire digestive tract from the oral cavity to the anus, often affecting the lower section of the small intestine or large intestine. Another important feature of Crohn's disease is that, unlike ulcerative colitis, the inflammation affects all layers of the wall. As a result, the inflammation can spread more quickly into adjacent tissue structures and organs (such as the urinary bladder, ovaries and uterus) and cause abscesses or fistulas, which make therapy more difficult and further limit the quality of life of those affected. Morbus Crohn Causes of Morbus Crohn's disease Causes of Morbus Crohn's disease In the past, Morbus Crohn's disease was classified as a classic autoimmune disease, but we now know that it is actually an immune-associated disease. This means that the immune response that contributes to inflammation is not innate to the body, as is the case with autoimmune diseases. The exact causes of Crohn's disease are still not fully understood. However, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases always have complex backgrounds. Genetic predisposition In some cases of the disease there is a hereditary component. Mutations in certain genes that affect immune system function, intestinal barrier function, or inflammatory response may increase susceptibility to Crohn's disease. For example, changes in genes such as NOD2 and ATG16L1 have been linked to an increased risk of Crohn's disease. About half of patients with Crohn's disease have changes in the NOD2 gene. The level of risk depends on how severe the changes are and whether both genes are affected. immune system It is assumed that there is a disorder in the interaction between the intestinal immune system and the bacterial intestinal flora. Common intestinal bacteria invade the lining of the intestine, triggering an excessive immune response. Immune cells penetrate the tissue and continuously release inflammatory messenger substances. The immune system can also attack healthy tissue. In addition to the typical signs of inflammation, cell death and changes in tissue lead to progressive damage to the intestines. Numerous inflammatory messenger substances prevent the immune response from calming down, as happens in healthy people. The immune system remains in a persistently active state. Environmental factors Environmental factors can play a role in the development and progression of Crohn's disease. Although the exact causes of Crohn's disease are not yet fully understood, studies have shown that several factors may contribute to this condition: ⎯⎯• Smoke Smoking is a known risk factor for Crohn's disease. Studies have shown that smokers are almost twice as likely to develop Crohn's disease and that smoking can worsen the disease. ⎯⎯•Altered intestinal flora A disturbed intestinal flora, i.e. the microbial balance in the intestine, can play a role in the development of Crohn's disease. Studies show that certain bacterial strains are more common in people with Crohn's disease and that the intestinal flora can become unbalanced ⎯⎯•Nutrition Although no specific diet has been identified as a cause of Crohn's disease, there is evidence that a Western diet high in saturated fat, sugar, and processed foods may increase the risk of Crohn's disease. A low-fiber diet could also play a role. ⎯⎯•Environmental toxins It is thought that certain environmental toxins such as pesticides, chemicals and heavy metals may play a role in the development of Crohn's disease. Studies have shown that people living in developed countries are more likely to be affected by the disease. ⎯⎯•Psychological stress Although psychological stress is not the direct cause of Crohn's disease, stress and emotional stress can worsen the course of the disease and trigger flare-ups. It is important to note that these environmental factors do not affect all people with Crohn's disease equally. The exact connections and individual triggers can vary from person to person. Symptoms of Morbus Crohn Morbus Crohn often begins gradually. The disease progresses in episodes and symptoms can flare up and subside again and again. The most common symptoms are: ⎯⎯• Crampy abdominal pain ⎯⎯• Chronic diarrhea (sometimes with ⎯⎯• Blood in the stool when the colon is severely affected ⎯⎯• Fever ⎯⎯• nausea ⎯⎯• Vomit ⎯⎯• Loss of appetite ⎯⎯• weight loss If Crohn's disease has been present for a long time, not only the intestine is often affected, but also other organs. Possible symptoms are then: ⎯⎯• skin rash ⎯⎯• Joint pain and swelling ⎯⎯• Red eyes ⎯⎯• Liver and gallbladder problems ⎯⎯• Sore spots on the anus, sometimes also anal fissures Treatment of Morbus Crohn The Treatment for Morbus Crohn usually involves a combination of medications and lifestyle changes. Medications used to treat Crohn's disease include anti-inflammatory medications such as corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and biologics. Additionally, making changes to dietary habits, avoiding certain foods, and taking supplements can help improve symptoms. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to prevent complications such as intestinal obstruction, fistulas or abscesses. However, when deciding to have surgery, people usually try to preserve the intestines as much as possible and only remove the affected areas. It is important to note that Crohn's disease is a chronic disease and there is no cure. Treatment aims to control symptoms, achieve remissions and slow disease progression to improve patients' quality of life. INUSpheresis® INUSpheresis® for Morbus Crohn INUSpheresis® is a special blood plasma purification therapy that can be used for various diseases, including Crohn's disease. This therapy can help to specifically remove inflammatory substances, immune complexes, autoantibodies and harmful substances from the blood. By using innovative filters, the healthy components of the blood are preserved. The aim of therapy is to effectively alleviate chronic inflammation and the associated symptoms by washing out the corresponding inflammatory mediators and immune complexes. After INUSpherese® treatment, a significant reduction in inflammatory messengers such as CRP or TNF-a can be detected in the blood. ELLANN® is one of the few certified centers in Germany that offer INUSpherese® therapy. It is important to us to provide our patients with the best possible support in freeing their bodies from stress that causes illness and thus promoting their health.
